The angels rejoiced and the birds sang, the sky brightened, and the stars twinkled, at the birth of -Sandra Marie Llewellyn who was born in the small community of Whitfield Town Kingston Jamaica. She is the third child of Armanel Wint and Rudolph Llewellyn. As a child she was blessed with the opportunity of growing with her mother and siblings. Sandra's education was of utmost importance to her parents; as a result, her first exposure to formal training took place at Rousseau Primary. On leaving this institution of learning she pursued further studies at the Norman Manly Comprehensive High and later at Camperdown High School. During her childhood Sandra was a very active Sunday school student at Life Tabernacle church at 32 Petoria Road. Kingston 3. The impact of Sunday school was great in her life and it was not long that the melody in her voice was recognized and appreciated. Sandra continued to excel as she would participate in Christmas programmes, concerts and in the ministry of the Sunday school choir. As the years passed it became evident that the call of God was on her life and that He wanted to use her talent to evangelize souls. This was materialized in 1982 when Sandra decided to make Jesus her choice.
Sandra continued to minister in song and while in her teens she was encouraged by her high school principal and a very special friend Ricky to enter the annual 'Teen Star Search' competition. Who would have thought that she would have emerged as one of the favourites? Yes, she did and guess what, she was place among the top three. After such a stunning performance you need not wonder why Noel Willis manger of the Grace Thriller, the then leading Gospel group in Jamaica seized the opportunity to incorporate this dynamic Gospel singer as a member of his group. For four years she ministered with the group and recorded as the lead singer in songs such as-: "Crown Him" and "As in the Days of Noah". Having obtained God's favour Sandra started to reap success hence in 1992 she received her call to the ministry as a soloist and didn't she bloom! certainly! So in 1994 she launched her first album -‘Don't Worry' this album topped the gospel chart in Jamaica and parts of the Caribbean. In 1998 her second album-"The Answer" has superseded the sales of the previous album. Isn't that Favour? This humble servant of God continued to bask in God's goodwill as she became the proud nominee for the Jamaica Music Award and the Binny and Rockers Award. In 1998 she became the recipient of the Jamaica Federation of Music Award of Excellence. She was also nominated by Bahamas in three (3) categories at the Caribbean Music Awards-: * Category i.-Outstanding female vocal performance. * ii.-Outstanding Calypso recording of the year * iii- Outstanding Caribbean song of the year. Sandra's ministry knows no boundaries, she ministers anywhere there is a call, and hence she is not daunted by race, social class or denomination. She is not a stranger to the lawns of Kings House or the Inner City communities. Do you need to wonder then why she has gained world wide recognition? Driven by the strength and courage of God this call on her life has enabled her to grace the stage with Artist such as-: Shirley Caesar, Traimane Hawkins, Phil and Brenda Nicholas, Bill and Sarah Gains, late Rev'd F.C. Barnes, Richard Smallwood, God's Property and Skeeta Davis.
Sandra's life is not only about music as it is commendable to mention that in the year 2005 she completed her course in Business Studies with honours at the Extra Mural-University of the West Indies and will be pursing in the near future her degree in Business Administration. Sandra is a benevolent person and as God blesses her she blesses others. The opening of Evangelist Sandra Brook's Academy of Gospel Music has been extended to all; many have received music scholarships courtesy of Sandra as they develop their skills in gospel music. Many are saying thanks to her today for the aide they have received for their regular education. She also continues to give benefits concerts as the Lord leads. Despite her busy schedule she still finds time to have fun with her children, she really enjoys playing with them. In her time of relaxation Sandra bakes, studies and perhaps sleeps. Her motto has guided her as she believes she can do all things through Christ who gives her strength. She is heavily dependent on God for direction This servant of God has been blessed with a "One in a million mom"- she is her friend, her confidant, her counsellor, her mentor and her strong support in joy or pain- Sandra feels strongly that life would not be the same without the woman of God her mother. Sandra is an ordained evangelist and worships at the Pentecostal Gospel Temple where the Pastor and saints continue to support her through prayer as they aim in assisting her in fulfilling her mission- i.e. to save the world from hell through the ministries of singing preaching and counselling. Ladies and gentlemen let us applaud this vessel of honour as we welcome on stage the distinguished song bird, our one and only, Evangelist Sandra Brooks, daughter of the soil of Jamaica. ..
